Meet the Trainer

My name is Katara Peters and my love for animals started when I was very young.  I have always had some type of pet in my life.   They provide such comfort to me on a daily basis and they ask nothing in return.  I have been blessed to be able to help others enjoy their dogs as much as I have enjoyed mine.  I currently have a 14 yr old Labrador Retriever, 5 yr old Yorkshire Terrier and a 4 yr old Miniature Pinscher.
I am a certified trainer through the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors, a United States Canine Scent Sports Judge/Chief Search Designer and AKC evaluator for Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog titles.
My teaching experience started 23 years ago.  I had my own dog school until 2016.   During that time, I also worked part time teaching at Countryside Agility in Erie, PA.  I currently teach 6 months of the year in Venice Florida and also Sarasota Obedience Training Club.  The other 6 months of the year, in Saegertown, PA.
While offering in person, group and private training, I also have expanded my services to offer virtual training to those that feel more comfortable meeting through Zoom from home.
In past years, I was also involved with Paws Hands Delivered, a local therapy dog group.  Volunteering as an evaluator for Therapy Dogs Inc (Alliance of Therapy Dogs Inc) and visiting local nursing homes, schools, and medical facilities.  In Florida I was involved with Racing Dog Rescue for Greyhounds.
My experience is in Pet Friendly Obedience, including puppy to advanced, Games Classes, Rally Obedience, beginner to advanced agility, as well as Foundation to Detective level Scent Work.  I have also worked with those needing behavior modification.
Over the past 17 years, I have earned titles on multiple dogs in Conformation, Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Trick Dog, Barn Hunt and Scent work.  Achieving Advanced titles in agility.  I am proud to state that I was the second person ever to put a Conformation and a Master Agility title on my previous Miniature Pinscher, Lilly, in 2013.
While small dogs are my passion, I love working with all types of breeds and sizes.  All dogs are trained equally no matter their size.  I strive to help you make your pet the best they can be.
I have a positive training style which encourages building a better relationship with your dog.  Using positive reinforcement with treats and/or toys as an incentive while also creating a free thinking pet.  The goal is to make training fun for both you and your dog.
